The Dignity Project's Achievements In Malawi
During 2006-08 The Dignity Project was based in Malawi working on a variety of educational programmes.
Six month feasibility study of 177 Primary schools in Nkhata Bay District collating quantitative and qualitative information this was used to form a needs database.
Sensitised 50 Chief’s / communities in Kabunduli T/A with partners on the formation of girl / mother groups. CSG Network setup (Community Support Group) through VESO.
Early Years Child Development with a children’s rights holistic approach workshops in conjunction with the local District Assembly represented by caregivers 120 pre-schools (80 children in each = 9,600 children indirect beneficiaries) and orphan care in the northern region using UNICEF Training manual. This included many facilitators from NGO’s.
Trained facilitators in teaching methodology at workshops and early year’s best practice this also include teachers of P1 and P2 primary schools.
Set up a sponsorship programme for OVC’s in Nkhata Bay District with UK sponsors.
Set up a sponsorship programme for OVC’s in Mzimba District with Italian sponsors.
Implemented workshops for community development in Nkhata Bay District.
Implemented a computer training workshop in Mzuzu.
Establish partnerships with 3 local CBO’s in Nkhata Bay District. Implemented literacy training.
Organised the establishing of a Pre-School Association in Nkhata Bay District.
Established income generating activities with Mpherembe & Enukweni CBOs by supplying sewing machines and materials and employ a tailor for training.
Trained students from Ministry of Hope local NGO & CBO’s (Community Based Organisations)in child development, nutrition, hygiene, food security, special needs, advocacy and literacy.
Implementation through training with VESO as partners formed 50 girl groups, and 50 mother groups in 50 schools in Kabunduli T/A in HIV /AIDS awareness and behavioural change.
Set up training workshops to train trainers with other partnerships with CBO’s Nkhwali who have six CBCC’s in their care in Nkhata Bay District and Mpherembe CBO in Mzimba District who also have six CBCC’s in their care. The beneficiaries and in-direct beneficiaries of this programme are approximately 4,889 children.
Part of a partner initiative educational support scheme for prisoners in Nkhata Bay Prison as part of a behavioural change programme and supplying textbooks for prison studies. Resulting in the students taking national exams.
Partial renovation of school building in Nkhata Bay District.
Designed a syllabus for Mzuzu University on Computer Hardware & Cryptography for their Masters Class which was implemented and taught.
Trained trainers to teach rural workshops.
Wrote in-Country proposals for additional funding.
Set up a model vegetable garden of raised beds to teach nutrition and marketing at our headquarters in Mzuzu.
